This is reposted and heavily edited from my OLD music blog which I do not use anymore.
I’ve decided to make a tutorial for anyone who wants to know how to find music (songs OR albums) very very EASILY in your own browser without potentially harmful virus sites or torrents.
Step 1: Google the song or album you want.

The Keywords
Using the popular search engine Google, type in keywords of the song/album you want to find.
To achieve a higher probability of receiving more search results…
1. Quotations around grouped keywords (ex. “the fray” rather than the fray)
** Popular songs usually do not require them.
2. More words specific to the item you want—but not excessively! More words (your song, your artist) means more results, but if you throw in the album name when you only wanted one track from it, you’re not going to get a good batch.
The Site to Search
Now affix site: to the end of your search terms. This tells Google to search specific sites for the keywords we are looking for (in this case, specific download sites to get the songs).
site: what?
Add a download site right after site:, with NO spaces (e.g. site:mediafire.com) The most popular and best download sites, in my opinion, include:

… and more. Experiment!
Step 2: Picking the best out of the batch
Alright, so Google has shit (shat?) a turd of sites for you. But which one is the best one for you? Let’s take a look:

Songs
1. The best 2 to 3 minute tracks normally range from 3.5 to 6 MB in size. Good songs USUALLY have larger file sizes. A 10 MB song may have a virus (unless that song just happens to be really long). 1 or 2 MB sized files probably have extremely poor song quality.
2. The “track#_-_artist_name-song_name.mp3” rule (e.g. 05-jacks_mannequin-dark_blue.mp3): These are great copies of the song. They are often tracks individually ripped from the retail version of the artist’s album. This often equates to the best song quality.
3. AVOID odd names in the Google search result title, e.g. a random yet fishy [desperateblog-promoter.blogspot.com] in the MP3 file name.
Albums
1. I have discovered that normally the best quality albums are at least 60 to 70 MB in size for a standard retail version of a 12-13 track album. Your mileage may vary!
2. .rar files are better than .zip.
** If you have no idea what a .rar file is, you probably don’t have the software to open this kind of file. Go and download a free copy here. I’d go for the first link way at the top, as standard systems are 32-bit. However, you may want to double-check your system by right clicking on your Computer icon on your desktop, selecting Properties, and check your System type.
Step 3: Download that file!
Sites such as MediaFire usually allow immediate download, but others may force you to wait 40 to 60 seconds to permit you the real download link. Annoying, but that’s why I love MediaFire the best.
Step 4: Listen. Plug & Chug.
Good copy of the song? Bad? Now you know. Experiment and you’ll get the hang of it.
Never been able to find that song?
Alright, you can go use your little bittorrents and P2P programs (BearShare, Kazaa, whatever’s out these days). I was only trying to show you a different method. Or try a file sharing forum site, such as this one.
Now, enlighten your friends and share this post. Or favorite it. :)
